Polar Plunge 2025

Support the 2025 Canadian Geographic Polar Plunge!

This year we are joined by notable Canadians, explorers, adventurers and RCGS Fellows. The #CanGeoPolarPlunge will help the Society raise important funding for the rich storytelling and engaging interviews that take place under the banner of Canadian Geographic and the Explore podcast.

Our goal is to raise $30,000! With your help we can continue to expand Canadians’ knowledge of our country’s diverse human and physical landscapes, better preparing them for an uncharted future.

When I dip, you dip, we dip!

Friday 28th Feb
Hi everyone!

I’m so excited to be plunging in support of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society this year. I’m proud to write science and history-based environmental longform features for the top-read magazine in the country, particularly from Atlantic Canada — a region that so sorely needs more and better journalism. And what better way to do help out than to submerge my frail human form in near-zero water for money?!

To make it more fun (and even pleasurable, dare I say!) I’m going to be plunging AFTER a sauna session on Dartmouth, Nova Scotia’s gorgeous Lake Banook.

Thanks to the fantastic folks at Nordic Sauna Rentals, who have donated an hour of sauna time, I want YOU to join me! If you donate $50 or more, I’ll enter your name into a raffle to join me at the session on March 9. (Just let me know in your donation if you’re interested in entering!)

Even *better*, if you decide to join my plunging team and help me raise money for this amazing cause, that will guarantee you a spot in the water with me.

If this is your first time, I’m a pretty experienced plunger and am happy to help show you the ropes. If you’re an expert, wait until you see how gorgeous and fun plunging in Banook can be! Thanks so much for your support, and I can’t wait to dip with you in support of environmental journalism for the #CanGeoPolarPlunge.
